Youth sought in connection with stolen motorbike crash

Police are appealing for help to trace one of two youths who were riding a stolen motorcycle which was involved in a collision in York.

At around 4.10pm on Monday 6 June, the red and silver Yamaha motorcycle collided with a blue Renault Megane on Broadway in York.

The motorcycle had earlier been reported as stolen from a property in Burton Stone Lane in York during the previous week.

The two youths riding the motorcycle ran off from the scene of the collision. A passing off-duty police officer and the officer dispatched to the scene carried out an immediate search of the local area. One of the youths, a 15-year-old from York, was arrested a short time later, however the other youth has not been traced.

Police are asking for the public’s help to find the second youth.

He is described as white, aged between 15 and 18 with short hair. He was wearing a white short-sleeved t-shirt, dark trousers and distinctive dark-coloured trainers with bright yellow or green soles.

He was last seen running from the scene of the collision on Broadway towards the university area.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the bike being ridden prior to the crash, saw the youth running away or has any information about the theft of the bike to contact them.

If anyone knows of anyone who acquired a red and silver Yamaha between 30 May and 6 June but no longer has the bike, please contact the police.

The arrested youth has been released on bail while the investigation continues. The driver of the Megane was uninjured.
