Blubberhouses dangerous driving incident – appeal for information

5 June 2011

Police are appealing for witnesses following a series of incidents involving a man driving a white Audi A3.

The first occurred, in Blubberhouses, at around 2.30pm on Friday 3 June. The Audi appears to have been deliberately driven at a woman who was riding a pedal cycle, a short distance from her husband and daughter. She managed to avoid being hit by the car. The driver of the Audi then got out of the car and threatened the woman. A second car, possibly a light coloured Ford Fiesta or similar type of vehicle, stopped at the scene and the two drivers spoke.

The second took place in Greenhow Hill at around 3.10pm when a man driving a white Audi stopped and briefly spoke with a workman before stealing a hammer from his car and threatening him with it.

At just after 3.20pm the Audi was seen driving at high speed along the B6265 near Cold Stones quarry. A short time later the vehicle left the road and ended up in a field. The 43-year-old man from Leeds, driving the Audi was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious but non life threatening injuries where he currently remains.

Traffic Constable Andy Macleod, of the force’s Roads Policing Group, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the manner of driving of the Audi A3 or may have spoken to the driver, who may have been acting in a unusual manner, around the time of the incidents.”
