Man charged with illegal use of lead shot and criminal damage

A 36-year-old man from Hemingfield, Barnsley will appear at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on Monday 16 May charged with criminal damage to a swan and shooting wildfowl using lead shot.

The charges relate to an incident at an organised pheasant shoot at Minskip on 8 December 2010.

Lead is highly toxic and regulations were introduced in 1999 to reduce unnecessary deaths and suffering of waterfowl from ingested lead shot poisoning

A Defra-funded investigation found in November 2010 that  70% ducks shot with illegal pellets and concluded that the law is still not working.
