Andrew-MeehansHarrogate solicitor Andrew Meehan updated more than 200 lawyers from across the UK on the latest development concerning pre-nuptial agreements at a national conference at the weekend.

The Solicitor Sole Practitioners Group annual conference, which was held in Harrogate for the first time, also included a keynote address by Linda Lee, President of the Law Society, and Chris Kenny, Chief Executive of the Legal Services Board.

Mr Meehan launched Harrogate Family Law last year and frequently delivers training and comment to other solicitors and barristers in the fast-moving field of pre- and post-nuptial agreements.

The conference ran for three days at the Majestic Hotel and Mr Meehan said the event played an important role in bringing sole practitioners together to share best practise.

“This is a prestigious annual gathering that offers people working independently in the legal profession information, industry updates and the opportunity to network with solicitors practising in different fields and in other regions,” he said.

Mr Meehan, who is the regional chairman of Resolution, the country’s leading association of specialist family lawyers, updated members on the latest developments in family law as part of the event’s Annual Legal Review.

“As well as dealing with a wide spectrum of family law cases I am one of a growing number of family lawyers specially trained in collaborative family law, a progressive way of resolving issues such as divorce and separation.

“Keeping abreast of the latest developments in this area of law is essential to ensure clients receive the best advice for their particular circumstances,” he added.

Mr Meehan’s next major speaking engagement will be at a Law Society event in July when he will be part of a panel of three family law experts which will include Fiona Shackleton, the divorce lawyer who acted for Paul McCartney and Prince Charles.
