Biker killed in Elvington collision – name now released

Police investigating a collision which resulted in the death of a motorcyclist have now released the name as Christopher Ryder, aged 41, from Barlby, Selby.

Officers were called to Greengales Lane, in Elvington, at around 11.05am on Monday 11 April 2011 after reports of a collision involving a grey Suzuki motorbike and a tractor, outside Raker Lakes.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist, the 41-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor, a 60-year-old local man, was uninjured.

The road was closed in both directions to allow police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The road was reopened at 3.10pm.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.

Traffic Constable, Yvonne Taylor, of North Yorkshire Police’s Road Policing Group, said: “I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle prior to the collision to contact the police with information.

“The biker was travelling in the company of another motorcycle and anybody who saw the two bikes or the tractor in the area around the time of the incident may have information vital to the investigation.”
