Harrogate Theatre celebrated yet another birthday today after opening its doors as Harrogate Grand Opera House exactly 111 years ago.

On the 13th January 1900 a charity gala celebration was held in aid of the Boer War Fund. The following week a production of Dick Whittington and his Cat began, which coincidentally is also this year’s pantomime at the theatre, finishing on Saturday.

After celebrating its 110th anniversary last year, this year’s birthday celebrations at the theatre were a little more low key. The audiences watching the panto performance gave a wonderful rendition of “Happy Birthday to the Theatre” but sources tell us that there was not a birthday cake in sight.

The Theatre has just announced its new season which shows the theatre continues to attract a diverse range of exciting companies and performers to the region, giving audiences access to an un-paralleled array of live entertainment.

From family favourites to Fringe First Award winning shows, and compelling drama to world class comedy, there truly is something for everyone.
