Ripon car theft – man charged following off-road pursuit

A man will appear in court this morning following an off-road police pursuit after two vehicles were reported stolen from the Ripon area.

At around lunchtime (12:30pm) on Saturday 8 January, a Land Rover Defender and Toyota Hi-lux 4×4 were reported stolen by their owners who were carrying out work on land in the North Lees area.

Officers located the Land Rover travelling south along the A1. They followed the vehicle which turned onto the A63 towards Leeds. The vehicle continued onto minor roads in the Ledsham and Ledston area before turning off-road into wooded area. With assistance from West Yorkshire Police’s air support unit and their road policing unit, the vehicle was brought to a halt and a 26-year-old Leeds man was arrested.

He is due to appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning (10 January 2011) charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and theft of a motor vehicle.

The Toyota was found abandoned in the Ripon area and investigations are continuing into the theft of this vehicle.
