THE MERRY WIDOW
Thursday 23 August 7.30pm
Often called ‘The Queen of Operettas’, The Merry Widow has certainly enjoyed extraordinary success since its 1905 premier in Vienna. Parisian high society is aflutter when the young, beautiful and stupendously wealthy widow Hanna Glawari arrives looking for a man who will love her and not her fortune. The dashing Count Danilo seems the perfect match, but no-one knows that he’s broken her heart before. Can she forgive and forget, or will a new admirer win her love? The melodies and songs – “Vilja”, “The Merry Widow Waltz”, “You’ll Find Me At Maxim’s” to name but a few – are sung the whole world over.
Trent Opera has won many awards including the International Trophy at the G&S Festival in Buxton and first prize at the Waterford Festival in Ireland.
