Kidderminster Harriers 1 – 0 Harrogate Town

27 March 2017

A goal two minutes from time robbed Harrogate of a valuable away point at the Aggborough Stadium,Kidderminster.
For Town, Jon Paul Pittman replaced the injured,Lloyd Kerry and new loan signings,James King and Adam Porritt, were given places on the subs bench.

After early Harriers pressure,it was Town who should have taken the lead.

Lewis Turner’s long cross forced home skipper,Keith Lowe, to concede a corner which was eventually stopped on the line by Sam Hornby after a goalmouth scramble.

Two minutes later,Simon Ainge was left with only Hornby to beat after a defensive mix up,but he blasted his shot high over the bar, to squander what became Town’s best chance of the match.

The Harriers mounted several strong attacks, but could not fashion any clear cut chances against Town’s resolute rearguard.

Late in the half, Danny Ellis had to concede a corner from Daniel Nti’s dangerous centre and Ryan Croasdale tested, Peter Crook, with a low drive from twenty yards out.

At the break,Turner was replaced by Jack Emmett, whose speed and dribbling ability posed a threatened to the home defence for the rest of the match.

Joe Leesley, twice curled free kicks narrowly wide of the far upright and a J P Pittman centre across the box found no takers.

Ellis pushed forward to head a Leesley corner wide and Emmett forced a diving save from Hornby, but it was the Harriers who struck the late decisive blow.

Sub, Andre Brown, chased a long clearance from Hornby and his speculative lob nestled in the far corner of Crook’s net.

A stoppage time header by Ainge from Leesley’s free kick was wide of the mark and a gallant effort by Town which earned the plaudits of the home crowd and officials, came to an end leaving Town in eleventh place in the table.
