Soroptimist International of Harrogate and District – Craft Aid International

28 November 2016

Members of Soroptimist International of Harrogate and District were inspired by a presentation given by Andy Hart about the work of Craft Aid International, which is an organisation serving people with disabilities in Yorkshire and beyond.

Andy shared with us his story about how his wife Susie Hart MBE went out to Tanzania and ultimately set up Neema Crafts to empower, educate and enable those with sight loss and people with other disabilities, who are often ostracised from their own community. Neema Crafts is now a self sustaining and highly regarded social enterprise.

Susie and Andy returned to the UK and set up Craft Aid International running weekly craft session for adults with disabilities in the UK. They are also setting up social enterprises using the Neema model in Peru and Ecuador. http://www.craftaidinternational.org
