Rossett cricketers aim for title treble

Keen cricketers at Rossett School are being encouraged to put in some extra overs indoors as the school sets its sights on a re-run of last season’s cup success.

The school’s Year 7 cricket team won the Dennis Richards Trophy in an eight-a-side competition featuring the best school sides in North Yorkshire at the end of the summer term.

It was the third year running that Rossett have reached the final and the second time they have won the trophy.

Head of Year 7 and PE teacher Mike Sweetman said:

Our boys did so well that I am keen for them to repeat their success again next season.

We have newcomers who have trained with our partner primary schools and I believe our new Year 7s can go on to defend the title.  The standard of performance I’ve already seen is really encouraging.

In the final at Harrogate Cricket Club, the Rossett team beat a strong St Aidan’s team by 22 runs, having overcome Allertonshire in the semi-final.

The winning team was steered to victory by captain Harry Bhogal who put in an outstanding performance in both batting and bowling.
