Young heroes needed!

13 August 2016

With just a month to go before nominations close, the search is on for Yorkshire’s Young Achievers.

The region’s finest young people will be rewarded at the Yorkshire Young Achievers Awards in November and the organisers are keen to hear from anyone who would like to nominate a winner.

The 24th Awards, sponsored by McCormicks Solicitors of Harrogate, take place on Thursday 17 November at the Leeds United Centenary Pavilion and are open to anyone aged 35 or under who was born, lives or works in Yorkshire. Previous winners have ranged from heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill to the Kaiser Chiefs and from England and Yorkshire cricketer Joe Root to singer Kimberley Walsh.

Being famous is not important, however, as the Awards recognise talent and courage across a number of categories, including business, sport, education and the arts. There is an Unsung Hero award as well as a Youngster of the Year to celebrate the achievement of a child under 12.

Awards Chairman Peter McCormick OBE said:

We have seen young people from Yorkshire achieve some remarkable heights already this year, such as golfer Danny Willett winning the Masters and diver Jack Laugher taking gold at the Olympics but we also want to hear about other young people, who may not have had the same recognition for their achievements.

To nominate a winner, simply visit the website at www.yorkshireyoungachievers.co.uk/nominations. The closing date is Friday 9 September 2016.

The Awards have raised more than £1m for youngsters in Yorkshire, including a record total of more than £46,000 in 2015. The money is used to provide grants for young people and projects supporting them in the region, being distributed through the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation.
