Sonic boom heard over Harrogate

2 May 2016

North Yorkshire Police have said that they have confirmation from the RAF that the loud bangs heard across the county were sonic booms from RAF Typhoon jets and that they are no cause for concern.

The boom could be heard over all parts of Harrogate at around 10pm this evening, 2 May 2016.

RAF Coningsby said that they have responded to a (quick reaction alert) QRA after an aircraft was off-course.

A civilian airliner from Paris was intercepted and escorted into Newcastle Airport.
