Harrogate Hockey u14s head to Olympic Park

14 April 2016

Harrogate Hockey Club boys are following in the footsteps of their heroes after winning a place in the National finals.

The under 14s, who are already Yorkshire champions, crowned an outstanding season by winning the North of England finals in front of a fantastic home crowd (10 April 2106).

Coached by former England u21, Cannock and Yorkshire player Gary Nash, the boys kept cool heads to overcome Derwent 2-0, Bowdon 2-1 and Aderley Edge 3-0 to book themselves a trip to the Olympic Park. They will play in London on May 14 at the same stadium used in the 2012 Olympics.

Gary, paying tribute to his side, said:

I am so proud of this squad. They have talent way beyond their years and kept cool heads to earn their place in the Nationals. It is well deserved. I am excited for them. It is every hockey team’s dream to play at the Olympic stadium.

The home crowd was amazing, with other Harrogate teams and parents turning out to cheer the boys on. Thanks for such great support, it really helped spur the boys on to victory.

The winning squad: Jan Schrewe, Tom Lee, Thomas Nash, Matty Bird, Toby Blaker, Andrew Wallace, Elliot Shard, Harrsion Wakeling, Fergus Henry, Alfie Weaver, Alfie Willis, Ben Collinson, Hector Bowerman, Alex Sheldon and Ethan Walker.
