Pocket rocket, Rose Forrest from Harrogate Grammar School

23 March 2016

Harrogate Grammar School student, Rose Forrest, was identified in a recent PE lesson as being a talented distance runner.

At a cross-country training session, Rose stood out as a real pocket rocket so she was selected to represent Harrogate Grammar School at the Area Schools’ Championships where Rose ran a very muddy and hilly course to come second which meant she had qualified for the North Yorkshire Championships.

Rose represented Harrogate and Craven in these Championships and again came second after running a much drier course, this resulted in Rose qualifying for the English National Schools Final which have just been held and Rose came a truly amazing seventh place!

In addition to all these competitions Rose has also recently competed in the Northern Counties Championships and came third place. All of these are fantastic achievements having only started at Harrogate Grammar School in September.

Rose said:

I have always loved running ever since I was little. From the moment I saw Jessica Ennis run, when I went to the Olympics, I was immediately inspired and wanted to start running.

At just 11 years old, Rose shows outstanding talent and has now joined Harrogate Harriers where she is training and competing on a regular basis. Rose also joins in Harrogate Junior Parkrun most Sundays which she says ‘is great fun!’ What a great start for such a promising athlete!
