Transdev announce Candlelighters as their charity of the year

28 February 2016

Bus Company Transdev Blazefield has announced that its Charity of the Year is to be Candlelighters, a Yorkshire charity supporting children with cancer and their families.

Employees made the official announcement at the unveiling of the grand total they raised last year by taking part in a 10km run and other fundraising activities.

Founded in 1976 by families and medical staff, Candlelighters helps support children with cancer and their families.

They fund research, family holidays, grants and essential additional services within the hospital and vital support for families battling children’s cancer.

Transdev’s Chief Executive, Alex Hornby, said:

We’re so pleased to be supporting Candlelighters, and we’re delighted they have been chosen by our employees as our Charity of the Year.

We’re looking forward to supporting all the amazing work they do.

The charity is especially close to our hearts here as Phil Rae, a driver at our Harrogate Depot has needed their support since his daughter, Tegan, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2014.

Phil Rae, said:

I am delighted to hear that Candlelighters in to be Transdev’s chosen charity this year.

The last year and a half has been very hard for my family and I and Candlelighters have been with us and Tegan every step of the way providing invaluable support.

Brian Curran from the charity added:

We are delighted that staff at Transdev have chosen to support us for a second year.

We hope that by providing more fundraising opportunities they will raise even more money to support our work with children with cancer and their families.
