David Bowie fans are invited to head down to Montey’s Rock Café on Friday (15 January 2016) to honour the life of the pioneering rock star who died from cancer on Sunday.
The Harrogate bar’s playlist for the night will include classic Bowie songs from 8pm onwards and the singer’s 80s ntasy film Labyrinth will be featured on TV screens.
Bar staff will also serve two Bowie inspired ails throughout the evening, and they’ll donate 50p to Yorkshire Cancer Research for every one sold.
Bowie devotees are encouraged to dress up and celebrate with face paint and hairspray.
Colin Speirs, one of the managers at Montey’s, said:
We’ll be digging out our best fancy dress gear to celebrate the life of a genius. The idea for the night came about simply due to the outpouring of affection for Bowie when news broke of him passing.
We were all so sad to hear that cancer had taken his life. He was a true legend of music who touched so many lives and shaped so many of the bands we love today. It seemed only apt to try and raise some cash for the disease that took him.
Abbie Davis, Events Coordinator at Yorkshire Cancer Research, added:
We think this is an amazing idea and we hope all the Bowie fans in Harrogate come and join in the celebrations and help to raise money for Yorkshire’s cancer patients at the same time.
