Duchy of Lancaster submit outline planning application for Cornwall road development

8 December 2015

The Duchy of Lancaster has submitted an outline planning application for an 18 acre site off Cornwall road in Harrogate.

  • Erection of 165 dwellings
  • Formation of access roads and private access driveways
  • Provision of open space and sports facility to include playing pitches and pavilion
  • Landscaping and associated works with access considered

A public exhibition took place in June 2015. In response to feedback from local stakeholders, the Duchy team has revised the mix of homes proposed to include a greater proportion of smaller and affordable homes for local people.

The application also proposes traffic management measures along Cornwall Road, improved public access to an enhanced green network and the four new sports pitches and sports pavilion will be approved Sports England (junior) standards. The layout will also offer a new safer access to the adjoining Guide Centre.

Commenting on the application, Duchy Chief Executive Nathan Thompson said:

As a historic landowner, the Duchy is keen to ensure that any new homes developed in Harrogate are well designed, built to a high quality standard and provide good community amenities for local residents.

We are mindful of the need for low density schemes which reflect the surrounding environment and believe that the plans we have put forward will deliver this.
