Gainsborough Trinity 2 -1 Harrogate Town

6 December 2015

Harrogate Town slipped to a disappointing defeat at a blustery Northolme,Gainsborough.

Harry Coates was recalled to the Town defence and Jack Emmett started at number nine.

It only took Emmett six minutes to give Town the lead when he shot past Jan Budtz into the corner of the net after sterling work by Dom Knowles,Joe Colbeck and the overlapping Lewis Turner.

Trinity almost levelled immediately when Nathan Jarman hit the roof of the net from thirty yards, while at the other end a Brendan Daniels downward header bounced over the Trinity goal.

A tremendous goalmouth scramble saw Town clear off the line three times and Jarman hooked a Jake Picton free kick over the top.

Both sides were providing excellent fare in the atrocious conditions, but it was Town who took control.

Lloyd Kerry forced Budtz into a full length save and Andy McWilliams created a chance for Daniels who drove against the post, only for Knowles to head the rebound over the bar.

Emmett was tormenting the home defence and he set up Daniels whose shot brought out a superb left handed save from Budtz.

Trinity with the gale at their backs made a strong start to the second half and equalised on fiftyeight minutes when Jarman headed in a Picton cross at the far post.

Emmett was again the provider when he found Knowles but the Trinity defence managed to block his shot.
Trinity kept pushing

forward and Liam Davis found the side netting with a deflected shot, while Peter Crook displayed a safe pair of hands to cut out many dangerous Trinity crosses.

Gainsborough struck the vital blow with only eight minutes left when a lofted clearance hung in the air and Darryl Stamp headed over Crook from the edge of the area.

Town tried hard for an equaliser and deep into stoppage time, Paul Clayton found Jordan Thewlis on the left but Budtz saved the day for Trinity when he saved with his legs.
