After 20 years in the wings, comedian takes centre stage in Knaresborough with his unique comedy show

27 October 2015

Based in Leeds, comedian Silky has over 20 years experience in hosting, running, and promoting Kill for a Seat Comedy clubs, in Leeds (at Seven Arts, Verve and the West Yorkshire Playhouse), Huddersfield, Ripon, Topcliffe, Helmsley, Otley, Guiseley, Clifford, Boston Spa, and more, but now he will be taking centre stage as the headline act in his new show, Silky & Friends. His first performance will take place at The Frazer Theatre, Knaresborough, on 18th November 2015.

Silky’s own act, which involves combining comedy with songs and guitar playing, has already received accolades from comedy royalty including John Bishop and Stewart Lee

‘a very very funny fella…just brilliant ’- John Bishop

‘far better guitar playing than is required for a comedy show’ – Stewart Lee

One of Silky’s greatest skills is reading his audience. His years of compering have taught him how to improvise and tailor his shows to the feel of the room. This skill will be brought into Silky & Friends so that no two shows will be the same. For each performance Silky will include material personalised to the audience in front of him, as well as topical news from that very day.

Silky & Friends has been born out of his growing following at the Edinburgh Festival over the past four summers. (“cryingly funny” The Bath Chronicle)

★★★★★ “Silky opens himself up to his audience with an hour of often touching, and always funny stand-up. His fluent and intelligent storytelling is impressive, and carries with it a genuine sense of character. This is a performer whose genuine charm captures his crowd. I urge you to go and see it for yourself.” Three Weeks

As the show title suggests, Silky is not heading out entirely alone. He will be bringing along hand-picked up-and-coming local comedians to broaden the line-ups for his new show. Local comedian Tom Taylor, promoter of the much-loved Sitting Room Comedy Clubs, will be opening the Knaresborough show.

Silky said:

Come and see me because I’m not on TV: because I’m 40yrs of age and don’t have forward facing hair. I play hilarious songs, with above average skills on the guitar, and I’ve been making people laugh really hard since 1994. I’m not fashionable – never have been, never will be. If I do get fashionable you’re allowed to come at me, swinging a bar of soap in a sock.

Following its first outing at The Frazer Theatre in Knaresborough, ‘Silky & Friends’ will be touring, starting at The Town Hall, Masham, in January 2016.
