Talented local musicians have the chance to share their skills with an audience of thousands at this year’s Harrogate Christmas Market.
Solo artists and ensembles are being invited to perform in the ‘busking’ area in the heart of the Christmas Market.
- Thursday, 19 November 2015 to Sunday, 22 November 2015
From solo artists to ensembles, anyone who wants to help create a festive atmosphere for visitors can sign up to take part. Last year, an estimated 52,000 people came to Harrogate Christmas Market and many stopped to enjoy the music as they shopped.
Marian Farrar of St Aidan’s High School, who is organizing the busking schedule, said:
With the new school term now under way, many individual musicians and groups will be thinking about what they will be doing in the run-up to Christmas.
We hope lots of local performers will want to join us as part of their Christmas schedule. We’re open to music of all kinds, from vocalists to small bands, and would love to hear from anyone who has performed with us before, as well as those who are new to us.
Everyone who signs up will be allocated a time slot, and will be welcome to perform more than once during the four days if they wish. While performing, they can collect donations for their own instrument fund or for other good causes; in 2014, performers supported charities including Cancer Research UK, Relate Yorkshire, Candlelighters and Follifoot Riding for the Disabled.
Now in its fourth year, Harrogate Christmas Market is proving more popular than ever with both traders and visitors. The 200 spaces for traders sold quickly when they were released, with just a handful of stalls still available now, and the number of coach parties already booked to attend is higher than in previous years.
With the official Christmas Lights Switch-On also due to take place on Thursday, November 19, Harrogate will be well and truly in the festive spirit throughout the four days.
