Concert raises £650 for community café

30 May 2015

Corrina and friends Community Café has today (30 May 2015) received a generous donation from Knot Another Choir.

Knot Another Choir is based in Knaresborough, the K standing for Knaresborough and they rehearse weekly at the Gracious Street Methodist Church.

On the 16 May 2015 they hosted a concert from the Henshaws centre in Knaresborough and raised an amazing £650 for the Community Café.

Julie Bradbury-Sharp of Knot Another Choir said: We had heard about Corrina and all the work that she was doing. It just really appealed that we should try and do something to help support the café.

We thought the event would attract about 60 people and was amazed when 160 people came along.

The grand total of £650 was simply amazing and we would like to thank all those that supported the night.

We know the money will be put to good use.

The Corrina and Friends Community Café on Mayfield Grove has been open a month and is very innovative in the way it operates. There are no set prices, at the end of your meal or drink you are just given an envelope and you “pay as you feel”, also from 6pm each day they provide a free meal to the homeless or needy, many nights they are serving meals to 40 people.

Corrina’s café operates on volunteer support and community donations of food. Lancaster Bakery and Regal Fruiterers, to name but two, provide daily produce. They don’t receive any other government or council support.

Corrina Young said: I went along to the event and the support was amazing, I was especially shocked when they told me how much that they had raised – the night itself was a lovely with many other musicians too.

The café is going really and this money will make a big difference.

We now have the support of 60 volunteers, people giving up their time for free and many local businesses providing regular donations – I can’t thank people enough for all the help that they give.
