Yorkshire-born singer/songwriter performs exclusive eco concert at Belmont Grosvenor

Talented singer/songwriter and eco ambassador James King brought the house down when he performed an exclusive concert to parents, pupils and staff at leading Harrogate prep school Belmont Grosvenor.

The 20-year-old, who has cousins at the school, visited Belmont Grosvenor as part of his tour of the UK’s top Eco Schools. Earlier this year, Belmont Grosvenor was awarded a highly-coveted Green Flag by the international Eco-Schools programme in recognition of its work to make sustainability an integral part of daily life.

As well as singing his special eco song ‘Breathe’ to inspire pupils to continue their important environmental work, James performed a number of songs from his soon-to-be released EP.

James King said: I believe we can all make that difference and make a change to benefit others, and more importantly, to change the way we live. Pupils at Belmont Grosvenor School have already done so much, they are an inspiration.

Year 6 pupils, and members of the school’s Eco Committee, Leah Osborn and Daniel Kittle, were buzzing after the show.

Leah said: It really was amazing. James is a great singer and his message about the environment is great.

Daniel said: We are busy making a bottle greenhouse at school at the moment, using recycled plastic bottles, and do lots of other environmental things.

We grow our own vegetables, pick up litter and switch lights off. James has been great and has inspired us to do even more.

Headteacher at Belmont Grosvenor School, Jane Merriman, said: Our children have a real affinity with their environment and a strong moral sense of looking after their planet, so to be able to meet and to sing along with James King as he performed his eco song was an amazing opportunity and truly memorable.

Belmont Grosvenor School, based at Swarcliffe Hall, Birstwith, is a co-educational independent prep school just three miles from Harrogate, catering for children from three months to 11 years.
