Northallerton police station evacuated following bomb scare

The public have been thanked following an incident at Northallerton Police Station.
An evacuation of the town’s police station too place  earlier today (Tuesday 2 September 2014), when a suspicious package was located in the station.

An Army team from Catterick Garrison examined the package and declared it safe.
Northallerton Police Station, the two adjacent buildings and the road were reopened at 11.15am.
The 25-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill, remains in police custody.

Chief Inspector Sarah Sanderson, of Northallerton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: I would like to thank local residents and business owners for their patience and understanding while the incident was ongoing.

I am also grateful to the Army personnel who carried out the checks on the package and are now assisting with the investigation.
