Places are still available in Yorkshire Cancer Research’s flagship bike ride The Dales Rider – and there’s a cycling holiday up for grabs for the highest fundraiser.
The event is backed by professional cyclist and Commonwealth bronze medallist Scott Thwaites from Burley-in-Wharfedale and showcases some of Yorkshire’s most stunning countryside. With two routes to choose from, it’s ideal for both experienced riders looking for a tough challenge and amateurs looking for their first sponsored ride.
Both the 65 and 31 mile routes begin and end at Ilkley Rugby Club, and Ilkley Cycles and Outdoor is providing financial support and on-the-day assistance as the event’s official partner.
The participant that raises the most money to help fund the charity’s world-class research projects will win a one week all inclusive holiday for two adults in Tenerife, courtesy of Jet2 Holidays. The holiday includes a seven night stay at the 5* Sandos San Blas, based in Golf del Sur, Tenerife with return flights and transfers. The hotel, which provides safe bicycle storage, is close to four cycling routes that take in the dramatic scenery of the Canary Islands.
Andy Pierce, Events Manager at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said: We’re thrilled to be able to offer such a fantastic prize to our highest fundraiser. It’s been a brilliant few weeks for cycling in Yorkshire following the Tour de France’s Grand Départ and the success of Scott Thwaites and Lizzie Armitstead in the Commonwealth Games. We hope everyone will be inspired to take on their own cycling challenge and help us improve cancer outcomes in Yorkshire at the same time.
Entry to the event, which takes place on Sunday, August 31, costs £20 or £27.50 with timing chip. For more information, visit www.yorkshirecancerresearch.org.uk/thedalesrider
