Learn something new for free during Adult Learners’ Week

12 June 2014

Try a new course for free!

The adult learning and skills service at North Yorkshire County Council is offering free taster sessions for adults across the county from Saturday 14 to Friday 20 June.

Free courses include art and crafts such as making a hat, cake decorating, sewing, patchwork hobby crafts, art in the park events, beginners crochet, watercolour painting, monochrome drawing techniques, mosaics; IT courses such as ‘what do I do with my iPad?’, introduction to eBay buying and selling and Internet safety for parents.

For those interested in gentle exercise and relaxation there are courses in Alexander technique and crystal healing.

Other more vocational courses include introductions to counselling, adult social care, childcare, becoming a teaching assistant and conversational courses in Spanish, French and Italian.

The sessions are aimed at people who want to try something new before enrolling on a full course.

County Councillor Tony Hall, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Adult Learning said: We all need to step out and do something new and different and expand our horizons from time to time, so this is an excellent opportunity for people to try something out to see if it’s the right thing before making a longer term commitment. Whether you just want to add some sparkle to your leisure time or whether you are thinking about a change of career and want to develop new skills, North Yorkshire’s adult learning service offers something for everybody.
