Nidderdale’s first cycle hire business gets into gear

15 April 2014

A Summerbridge entrepreneur and cycling enthusiast has launched Nidderdale’s first cycle hire service, to meet growing demand from visitors and residents to experience the area by bike.

Nidderdale Cycle Hire, based in Low Laithe near Pateley Bridge, offers a wide range of bikes, including mountain bikes for off road trials; tourers with panniers for longer rides and electric-assisted hybrid bikes, as well as a tandem.

Dave Mann (pictured), who has set up Nidderdale Cycle Hire said: This is such an ideal location, on the edge of the Yorkshire dales, with fantastic cycle routes in all directions.

It’s not far from Brimham Rocks and Nidderdale is full of bridleways and quieter lanes that are ideal for cycling.

Keen cyclist, Mr Mann, has competed in several triathlons and also coaches junior triathletes at Ripon club NYP Tri, as well as being a member of Harrogate’s Nova Cycling Club.

Dave said: Seeing the popularity of cycling grow over the past few years, I realised that what our area needs is the opportunity for visitors to see more of it by bike.

I train on most of the local roads and trails around here and it is an amazing place to see by bike. Having the Tour De France coming so close, is also a huge incentive for people to get out and see more of Nidderdale on two wheels.

Bikes can either be hired, and ridden directly from Nidderdale Cycle Hire, or driven to the starting point of a ride using bike racks provided.

Mr Mann is also offering a free bike delivery and collection service within a three-mile radius of Low Laithe. Maps are available, showing some of Nidderdale Cycle Hire’s recommended rides around the Nidderdale valley, with a variety of routes to suit every level of rider.

Dave added: Cyclists can pick the right route for their ability, or they might just want a relaxing ride to soak up the scenery and visit a couple of local cafes or country pubs – there’s something to suit all riders.
