Harrogate Town 1 -1 Gainsborough Trinity

30 March 2014

A goal six minutes from time by Ashley Worsfold kept Town’s slim play off hopes alive.

For Town, Shane Killock returned from injury, Craig Nelthorpe from suspension and Liam Hardy was recalled from a loan spell at Buxton.

Dwayne Samuels was soon called into action to brilliantly rob Jonathan Margetts as he was left in the clear with only Craig MacGillivray to beat.

Town began to hit their stride and Conor Sellars created a chance for Chris Hall who blazed over the angle.

Smart work by Anton Brown provided an opening for Worsfold but his flick at goal was blocked by keeper, Phil Barnes.

Barnes soon proved his worth again when he saved with his legs after Hall beat the offside trap.

Liam Davis was posing Trinity’s main threat, firstly hitting a twenty yard drive wide before forcing MacGillivray to tip over the bar.

As half time approached, there appeared to be little danger when Margetts collected the ball on the left, but he ghosted through the strangely pedestrian defence to tuck the ball inside the post.

Town suffered an early second half blow when Adam Nowakowski received a bad injury to his nose which required hospital treatment.

Ex Town player, Dom Roma, denied Sellars at the far post from Worsfold’s centre, while at the other end,MacGillivray made a vital one handed save from Colin Bateman after he had been put through by Simon Russell.

Barnes saved well from Sellars and Worsfold as Town sought an equaliser, but Trinity should have stretched their lead when MacGillivray could only parry a Grant Robert shot from the edge of the area into the path of Margetts who hit the rebound straight back at the keeper.

Seconds later, Tom Davie pushed forward to rattle a shot against the upright, but Town’s resilience paid off with six minutes left.

Craig Nelthorpe dispatched Samuels down the right wing and sub Michael Woods’ initial header from his cross was blocked but he recovered to centre for Worsfold to head home from close range.
