Harrogate Town home win against Solihull Moors

9 March 2014

An excellent performance by Harrogate saw them run out 2-1 winners over Solihull Moors.

Leigh Franks was recalled to replace the injured,Shane Killock, and Anton Brown started at number 4, with Craig Nelthorpe replacing him on the subs bench.

For the second Saturday running, Town scored a second minute goal, when Dominic Rowe took advantage of a slip by Jordan Gough, made ground down the right, before squaring to Chris Hall to sidefoot home.

Jasbir Singh then saved from Ashley Worsfold and Conor Sellars as Town kept up the pressure, but Moors began to get a foot in the game.

Firstly,Richard Taundry swerved a shot just wide of the upright and then on 17 minutes they equalised.

A missed kick by Adam Nowokowski let in Darryl Knights whose progress was halted by an alleged trip in the area by Brown.Ryan Beswick gave Craig MacGillivray no chance with the resulting penalty.

Town roared back into the attack and Worsfold almost restored the lead when he shot at the open goal with Singh stranded on the edge of the area, but Stuart Pierpoint saved the day for Moors when he raced back and cleared off the line.

Moors retaliated quickly and Town had a let off when Junior English headed a Beswick centre against the crossbar.

The decisive goal came on 38 minutes when Hall broke clear and played in Worsfold who rode a tackle in the area before slipping the ball under Singh.

Harrogate, with Sellars and Rowe on the wings and Brown,Franks,Heath and Nowakowski dominating midfield, bossed the second half.

It took until the last few minutes before Moors threatened the home goal when Franks had to head a fierce drive from sub,Alex Dean, over his own bar and MacGillivray was called on to tip a Beswick free kick over the top.
