Police looking to trace movements of woman following unexplained death in Keighley

Police investigating the unexplained death of a woman in Kildwick, Keighley, are appealing for the public’s help to trace her movements.

Her body was found in a canal by a member of the public at 7.15am on Tuesday 18 February 2014.

The woman, who is thought to be aged around 70, is white, with short grey hair and was wearing a three quarter length brown quilted jacket, a black skirt and a woollen hat. She may have been carrying a black handbag and orange canvas bag.

It is believed she may have been in the Starkey Lane area at 7.15am on Monday 17 February 2014 and spent some time in a local pub on the afternoon of Monday, and was seen near the canal at 11.30pm the same day.

The woman has not been formally identified it is thought she may be from the Manchester area and North Yorkshire Police are working with colleagues in Greater Manchester Police to ascertain her identify.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, who is heading the investigation, said: We are currently working to establish the circumstances as to how this lady came to be in the canal.

If you saw a woman matching her description, I ask you to contact the police straight away as you may have vital information that could help my enquiries.

I am keen to hear from anyone who can help me understand how she came to be in Kildwick, in particular anyone who may have given her a lift such as taxi drivers in Skipton or Keighley.

I am grateful to the local residents and canal users for their patience while the canal remains cordoned off pending the outcome of this investigation.
