Make a splash for Rotary and help Yorkshire Air Ambulance and to end polio

The third Knaresborough Rotary Club Swimarathon will take place at Knaresborough Swimming Pool on Saturday 22nd February between 12 Noon and 1pm.

The event is being sponsored by Contract Natural Gas of Harrogate, Independent Energy Supplier of the Year 2010

End-PolioOpen to anyone aged 8yrs old and over who can swim 100metres (4 lengths of Knaresborough Swimming Pool) non stop and without swimming aids. Those aged 8-16 yrs must be accompanied by someone aged 16 or over.

Half of the funds raised at this event will go towards Yorkshire Air Ambulance and half to Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign (details at www.knaresborough.rotary1040.org).

The entry fee is £2 for those in full time education and £3 for adults includes entry to the pool which will be closed to general swim admissions during this time.

Swimmers are encouraged to obtain sponsorship for their swim, which can be a minimum of 4 lengths (100 metres) to a maximum swim time of 20 minutes, and if possible get sponsors to Gift Aid their donations (£1 Gift Aided = £1.25!) Separate sponsor forms are available for Gift Aid.

Rotary and POLIO

In 1985 Rotary began working with the World Health Authority to eradicate Polio.

It is now two years since Polio was eradicated from India.

Today the disease is endemic in only three countries: Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.

In 2012 Knaresborough Rotary Club won a prestigious award as the leading Polio fundraiser amongst Clubs in North and West Yorkshire.

The 2013 Swimarathon raised over £2,500.
