Searches are continuing today (27 December 2013) for missing Riccall man, 48-year-old Simon Hodgson-Greaves.
Riccall is located south of York, towards Selby.
Simon’s camper van was found in the RSPB car park at Bempton Cliffs near Bridlington on Saturday 21 December, having been parked there overnight with no sign of Simon himself.
Officers from North Yorkshire Police are due to carry out further searches at Bempton Cliffs RSPB centre and the surrounding area today (27 December 2013)
Yesterday (26 December 2013), sea and air searches were carried out by HM Coastguard, the RNLI, RAF Leconfield and volunteers from Scarborough and Ryedale Search and Rescue Team.
Teams searched the cliffs and the shore line by air, lifeboat and on foot, but Simon remains missing.
Officers have renewed their appeal for members of the public who may have seen Simon since Friday 20 December, particularly those who were in the area of Bempton Cliffs and the surrounding area.
Simon is known to go on frequent camping trips and likes to go walking. He also has an interest in the RSPB and had visited the area in the past. It is now known that Simon had been staying in his van on and off for a number of weeks.
Although it is not unusual for Simon be away for days at a time, police are growing increasingly for his safety due to his lack of contact with his family and his lack of shelter.
Officers are exploring the possibility that Simon has gone walking in the area and may have got into difficulties. Or that he may have left the area on foot, perhaps using public transport or has been given a lift by a member of the public.
On Christmas Eve, North Yorkshire Police teamed up with the Missing People charity to help boost the appeal. Sightings can be reported to the charity direct as an alternative to contacting the police.
Simon is described as white, around 6ft tall and of slim build. He has sandy coloured hair, a greying beard and moustache, blue eyes and wears spectacles. It is not known what he will be wearing, however, he is known to dress very smartly and often wears tweed jackets, shirts and scarves.
If you believe you have seen Simon or know where he is now, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass information to the Force Control Room.
The Missing People charity can be contacted on 116 000, the line is open 24 hours a day and information can be passed confidentially.
