Fast-growing North Yorkshire law firm, Newtons Solicitors, has made its 14th new appointment this year when many law firms are merging or cutting back.
One of North Yorkshire’s best-known corporate dealmakers, James Towler (pictured), a former partner at Langleys Solicitors, York, has joined Newtons Solicitors headquarters in Knaresborough, with a brief to develop the firm’s corporate team across the seven offices within the group.
Newtons Solicitors, which has also acquired two law firms in the last 12 months, Hodgsons & Mortimer, Richmond and Darlington and Geoffrey Mochrie Solicitors, Leyburn, and opened a new office at Northminster Business Park, York, says that group fee income has also risen by 40 per cent since January and now stands at £2.5m.
James has more than 25 years’ experience advising management teams, SME owners and banks on buying and selling companies and drafting and reviewing complex commercial agreements.
He also routinely provides strategic advice on commercial issues affecting businesses.
Getting James on board is a significant achievement for us given his seniority and reputation. It is sending waves through to the legal community. This year we have recruited one of the strongest business service teams in the area which makes us a very attractive choice for prospective clients
His appointment follows that of Tiggy Cliffford, a former partner at Denison Till, who has a brief to develop our Employment Law Team and we have further high-profile appointments which will be announced early in 2014.
James Towler, who was at Langleys Solicitors for 13 years, says:
There is an exciting journey ahead of us at Newtons. I’m delighted to join such a fast growing and successful business which is clearly down to the calibre of the team and fast-moving management style.
Newtons Solicitors, which also has offices in Harrogate, Ripon, Darlington and Richmond, achieved 75 per cent fee income growth in 2012 and operates across a broad spectrum of commercial and private law legal disciplines.
