New recruits give camera club a competitive focus

New members are helping to boost photographic standards at Knaresborough Camera Club according to its chairman after the first competition of the new season.

Richard Bryant said a strong crop of entries from new faces showed high levels of ability.

Richard said: This bodes well for our forthcoming battles with other clubs. We’ve been raising our game and the new work that is coming through is excellent.

Some of our new members took runner up spots and one first which is a great start and a huge encouragement to everyone in the club.

Independent judge John Elvin from Ripon, scrutinised 92 print and projected images in the pictorial competition but told the audience that he had no difficulty in choosing the three overall winners from each of the categories.

Sue Evison took the print category with her striking and unusually lit image of the Angel of the North entitled Shiny Man while Jane Rowland’s projected category winning image captured the sombre mood of the French town of Oradour sur Glane which stands exactly as it did after the massacre and destruction by German troops during World War Two. Mike Morley’s dramatic picture of an Icelandic power station took first prize in the projected plus category.

The club meets on Wednesday evenings. Further information can be found at www.knaresboroughcameraclub.blogspot.co.uk
