Richard Grafton, managing director of Harrogate-based design store and studio Richard Grafton Interiors, has teamed up with his wife Milly to run their first marathon on behalf of Yorkshire Cancer Research – and the couple have already raised more than £1,200 for the charity.
Richard and Milly are training hard for the daunting challenge of running the Yorkshire Marathon, which takes place for the first time this year in York on 20 October 2013.
Neither of us has run anything like 26 miles before so we have been undergoing a fairly gruelling training regime in preparation for the event. What spurs us on to lace up our trainers and hit the road on the increasingly long distances that we are running as the big day approaches, is the money we are raising for Yorkshire Cancer Research, a charity that does so much valuable work in the fight against cancer right here in Yorkshire.
Thanks to the amazing generosity of all the friends, family and colleagues who have sponsored us, we have raised over £1,200 but we’d like to increase that amount if possible so we’re urging anyone who would like to support Yorkshire Cancer Research to visit our Just Giving page and make a donation. The more money we raise the more progress YCR can make in its fight against cancer.
Andy Pierce, events manager at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said:
We’d like to say a big thank you to Richard and Milly and wish them the best of luck in the marathon. We have over 400 runners taking part in this inaugural event and we look set to raise a substantial amount of money for our vital research.
The official Yorkshire Cancer Research cheer point at the marathon in York is located at the Balloon Tree Farm Shop on Stamford Bridge Road, where we would like to warmly invite all friends and families of runners to join us to show their support and cheer the runners on.
