September is the month to get involved with your local NHS

29 August 2013

September is a great month to get involved and find out more about the local NHS in Harrogate and the surrounding district as the local healthcare provider puts on two major public events. Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust’s Annual Members’ Meeting on 10 September is followed by an Open Day at Harrogate District Hospital on 19 September.

The Annual Members’ Meeting takes place at 6pm on Tuesday 10 September at Harrogate District Hospital. The meeting acts as the Trust’s AGM and includes a review of the 2012-13 year from the Chief Executive, Finance Director and the Trust’s Governors, the majority of whom are elected by the public.

This year’s event will also have a talk by Dr Lincoln Sargeant, Director of Public Health for North Yorkshire, about the role of Public Health in delivering effective health care.

Places at the Annual Members’ Meeting are limited, so anyone who would like to attend is asked to contact the Foundation Trust Office on (01423) 554489 or email angie.colvin@hdft.nhs.uk

Following the Annual Members’ Meeting, the Trust will once again be inviting the public to see behind the scenes when it holds its Showcase Open Day on Thursday 19 September, between 3.30 and 7pm, also at Harrogate District Hospital.

Harrogate HospitalThe event, entitled “Delivering Quality Healthcare to People in Yorkshire” will show how the Trust’s teams based in both the Hospital and the community across North Yorkshire work together to meet the needs of the local population. It will include over 40 interactive stands from teams as diverse as the North Yorkshire Stop Smoking Service, Human Resources and Infection Control.

People will also be able to tour various Hospital Departments such as Cardiology, the laboratories and the kitchens, guided by the Trust’s expert staff.

The events is free and no booking is required.

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust Chairman, Sandra Dodson, said:

“These two major events give local people the chance to see behind the scenes, find out more about how we deliver their healthcare and ask us any questions they may have.

We believe that it is important for us to be open and accountable to the community we serve and the Annual Members’ Meeting and Open Event are just two ways in which we do that.

The Annual Members’ Meeting gives people the chance to ask questions about the last year and to gain insight into the many and varied pieces of work that the Council of Governors is involved in.

We are very proud of our expert and dedicated staff and also want to take the opportunity of our Open Event for them to show off their good work and thank them for all they do.

I hope that lots of people will accept our invitations to come along and find out how we are delivering quality healthcare to people in Yorkshire.
