Harrogate Town 1 – 1 Motors

21 August 2013

A goal four minutes from time denied Town all three points at the C N G Stadium.

Town were the quickest to settle and in quick succession, Liam Hardy had a shot blocked by Andy Nicholas, before Chris Hall headed wide from a Dave Merris cross. Motors were presented with an opportunity when Leigh Franks was harshly booked after a foul on Ashley Stott, but Louis Barnes fired just over the bar.

A long throw from Franks was back headed over the bar by Adam Nowakowski, but on 26 minutes Town struck! The Motors defence could only clear another Franks throw, as far as the edge of the area, from where the unmarked Adam Bolder volleyed past Zac Jones.

Town kept up the pressure and Hardy sliced wide after brilliant control and a slide rule pass from Anton Brown. Motors captain,Tom Hannigan, found himself in Referee Salisbury’s notebook after a foul on Hall, but Franks headed the resulting free kick wide.

The second half belonged to Vauxhall as they began to take the game to Harrogate. On 53 minutes they thought that they had equalised, but the celebrations were cut short, when scorer Hannigan was penalised for pushing. Karl Noon shot over from distance and impressive new signing Lloyd Ellams, twice shot narrowly wide.

Town’s best move of the half, began with a break down the left by Hall, who then found Ashley Worsfold,he layed off to Bolder, who placed a twenty yarder just wide. Nowakowski was yellow carded before he was subbed by Craig Nelthorpe, who together with earlier sub Dominic Rowe, freshened up Town’s attack. However,it was Motors, prompted by several overlapping runs down the left from Barnes, who began to dominate. Craig MacGillivray made a fine save from Barnes’s low cross,as the Town back four worked overtime to repel a constant stream of corners and crosses from Vauxhall. Just when it appeared that Town might hang on,up popped centre back Andy Nicholas to head home from close range to equalise.

Chris Noone and sub Jordan Rutter went close as Town weathered the three minutes of stoppage time. Town have an early opportunity to get back to winning ways on Saturday when newly promoted North Ferriby United are our visitors.
