Talking Newspaper hears ‘A day in the life’ of local MP

8 August 2013

Harrogate & Knaresborough MP, Andrew Jones, recorded a 10-minute ‘day in the life’ piece for Harrogate Talking Newspapers monthly magazine. The audio magazine goes to several hundred residents who are partially sighted or blind and is an additional service to the weekly audio newspaper.

At the Talking Newspapers headquarters in Ripley, Andrew was met by volunteers from the newspaper. The newspaper began in 1977 on cassette tape and had 16 recipients. Now, 36 years later, hundreds of people receive the newspaper on a memory stick.

Commenting after the recording, Andrew said:

Talking Newspapers across the country provide an invaluable service to the blind and partially sighted – hundreds of people here in the Harrogate district benefit. People value being able to keep in touch with local goings-on and without the work of Harrogate Talking Newspaper’s volunteers that would be a more difficult task for many.
