Harrogate Town 3 – 0 Blackburn Rovers

21 July 2013

A superb performance by a much changed Town gained them a comfortable victory over a Blackburn Rovers XI.

A well taken first half brace by Ashley Worsfold put Town into the driving seat.

After visiting skipper,John O’Sullivan had tested Craig MacGillivray with an early drive,Town took control.

A Danny Clayton cross, after being sent clear by Dave Merris, stretched the Blackburn defence, before on 17 minutes Chris Hall’s lay off was volleyed past Matt Urwin by Worsfold,to give Town the lead.

Town’s defence, with Leigh Franks and Adam Nowakowski outstanding, restricted Rovers to long shots, with O’Sullivan and Patrick Antelmi firing well over.

Harrogate TownWorsfold made it two before the break when he chested down a through ball, and although under pressure, turned it past Urwin.

Urwin then made a point blank block to stop the impressive Hall making it three.

The introduction of the usual plethora of half time substitutes injected new life into Rovers and both O’Sullivan and Antelmi went close.

However, it was Town who increased their lead when Rovers cleared a Liam Hardy centre straight to Nowakowski, who almost took sub keeper, David Raya’s, hand off with a thirty plus yard screamer.

It was a good all round performance from Town, with skipper Anton Browne and the combative

Craig Nelthorpe having excellent games in midfield.

Town say they can look forward to next Tuesday’s game v Sheffield Wednesday with heightened anticipation.
