Volunteers needed for charity bike ride through the Dales

Yorkshire Cancer Research is appealing for volunteers to help at the charity’s flagship event, The Dales Rider.

Taking place on Sunday, September 1, and beginning at Ilkley Cricket Club, The Dales Rider takes in some of the most stunning landmarks within the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

With two circular routes of 65 and 26 miles, there will be lots of volunteering opportunities at the event – including marshalling the route, cheering on participants, manning a water station and taking registrations. All volunteers will be provided with refreshments and there will be a variety of times and locations to choose from.

Andy Pierce, Events Manager at Yorkshire Cancer Research, said:

Volunteers play a key role in running our events. We have seen from the success of London 2012’s Games Makers how rewarding volunteering can be and we would like to welcome anyone to come along and help at our Dales Rider event.

You don’t need any previous experience as you will be fully briefed on what to do and it is a great way to meet people, enjoy the outdoors and ultimately help fund vital research.

Volunteers will be supported by Ilkley bike store JD Cycles and Outdoor, the official partner of the event, who are providing on-the-day assistance as well as financial support.
