Golf tournament raises funds for Harrogate young carers

3 June 2013

£5000 was raised for local good causes by the Charity Golf Day organized by Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Club at Oakdale Golf Course on 23 May. 120 golfers took part, braving blustery conditions and the occasional shower of rain or hail. All participants were grateful for the warming beverages and food offered by the ladies of Inner Wheel at the Halfway House and most stayed on for the awards ceremony and dinner in the evening.

The tournament was won by the team from Management Partnership, with “Bones and All” led by Frank Flaherty in second place. Frank also won the “nearest the pin” prize and Rotarian Alisdair Stewart of the Brigantes Club won the “nearest the middle” prize.

Thanks to the major sponsors CNG and Harrogate Round Table, other sponsors, donors of the tombola prizes and items for auction, and those who advertised in the programme, the day raised £5000 which will be donated to the Harrogate Young Carers and a number of other charities.

Joint organizer Rotarian Barry Pollard commented:

The day was very much enjoyed by all who participated. We are very grateful for the regular support that we receive for this event from the local business community, which makes it possible for us to raise significant sums of money to help some very needy and worthy good causes.
