North Yorkshire police are now working with officers from the Metropolitan police as they believe that Mueni Mulandi may be in Lewisham, south London.
Mueni is 16-years-old and from Harrogate. She was last seen by her mother on Friday 17 May2013 when she told her she was going to stay with a friend.
She has not been seen by her family since and has not attended school this week.
Her mother reported her missing on Tuesday 21 May 2013. Police believe she has travelled to London to visit friends in the Lewisham area.
Inspector Will Scarlett of North Yorkshire Police has appealed directly to Mueni for her to get in touch.
Inspector Scarlett said:
Mueni, your family and the police are very concerned by your absence and want to know that you are safe. You are not in any trouble, we just need you to get in touch so we can ensure you are safe and well. Please contact the police or your family as soon as you can.
We know Mueni has friends in the Lewisham area and we are also appealing to them to contact the police if they have seen Mueni or know of her current whereabouts.
Mueni is described as black, 5ft 1in and of medium build. She has brown eyes and black shoulder-length hair which is shaved over her ears and highlighted with red and purple.
When she was last seen she was wearing an orange sleeveless t-shirt, black leggings with a white pattern, a brown bomber jacket and was carrying a black, patent leather handbag.
Anyone who has seen Mueni or knows of her current whereabouts is asked to contact the police on 101 without delay.
