Drugs arrests after suspects flee scene following car crash

PoliceHarrogate police arrested four people on Sunday night (19 May 2013) after officers intercepted a vehicle on The Esplanade at around 10.40pm.

Officers suspected the two male occupants of the Toyota Aygo were in possession of illegal drugs.

The 18-year-old passenger was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possessing class B drugs, he has been released on bail while the investigation continues.

The 20-year-old driver drove off from the scene as a PCSO attempted to remove a suspicious object from the car. The vehicle then crashed and the suspect left the scene.

The 20-year-old was later arrested at an address on Lancaster Road on suspicion of possessing class A and class B drugs and dangerous driving. He has been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

An 18-year-old Harrogate woman was also arrested at the same address and charged with obstructing the police – she is due to appear at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on 11 June 2013.

A second woman aged 19 was also arrested but later released without charge.

All people involved are from the Harrogate area and the vehicle was seized by the police as part of the investigation.
