Cyclist comes forward following Ripley to Bilton bridleway accident

Bilton to RipleyA man has now come forward following an accident on the newly opened bridleway between Ripley and Bilton in Harrogate, where an elderly female pedestrian suffered a broken hip.

A 56-year-old local man voluntarily attended Harrogate Police Station on Wednesday evening (3 April) to say he was the cyclist involved in the collision with the elderly woman on the new bridleway between Ripley and Bilton on Easter Monday.

He is assisting officers with the ongoing investigation.

The police have also confirmed that another man who was traced to the Ripon area on Monday evening, was not involved in the collision.

The 78-year-old woman is being treated for a broken hip at Harrogate District Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

Some of these cyclists should show some common sense when cycling along shared paths,,,I live in Knaresborough and regularly cycle along Abbey Road and Waterside,,I always cycle slowly when approaching pedestrians,Some of these serious cyclist fly past at great speed all the time,,,It only takes someone to step sideways and we know only too well what can happen,,,One thing i would like to add is you cannot please everyone regarding Bells if you ring it you are more than likely to get a discourteous look,,,Dammned if you do,,Damned if you dont,,??

  2. Even a bell may not be enough; the pedestrian may be hearing impaired (which can happen to all of us at some point through an ear infection). The only answer is to slow down and treat others with respect.
