Harrogate Brigantes Rotary Club and St John Fisher Catholic High School are collaborating to present ‘Ocean World’ in a “Kids Aloud” concert at The Royal Hall, Harrogate on 22nd March 2013.

Conducted by St John Fisher’s Head of Music Craig Ratcliffe, the award-winning St John Fisher Concert Band and choir will support choirs of 250 primary school children from 8 schools in North Yorkshire. Through music and song, the children will tell a tragic story of modern challenges faced by the ocean’s population.

The audio-visual extravaganza, which will be narrated by Dennis Richards, aims to raise in excess of £5,000 for The Brigantes’ charitable secondary school project in Nepal. To help provide underprivileged school-leavers the opportunity to obtain gainful employment using information technology, the Brigantes have forged links with five under-funded secondary schools to introduce and fund the teaching of IT as a curricula subject. Some funds will also be used to support St John Fisher’s music tuition and instrument loan schemes here in Harrogate.

In partnership with Nigel Beetles, St John Fisher’s Head of Performing Arts and Assistant Head, Carmel Wake, Music Teacher at Richard Taylor School will coordinate performances by the primary school choirs, which will represent Willow Tree Bilton Grange, St Peters, Goldsborough, St Joseph’s (Bilton), St Joseph’s (Bishop Thornton, Richard Taylor and St Edwards (Clifford).

Mr Beetles commented:

Being asked to orchestrate and support the show at the Royal Hall is a real coup for St John Fisher. It enables us to build on our relationships with charitable organisations, local businesses that are sponsoring the show, and many different primary schools in our community. We are delighted to help the Harrogate Rotary Brigantes Club raise money for a very worthwhile cause and are very much looking forward to presenting Ocean World in such a fabulous venue. With strong visual content, wonderful music, song and live video feed, it will be very dramatic.

Full cast rehearsals will take place at St John Fisher Catholic High School in the weeks before the event.

Tickets for the event, priced at £10 for adults and £6 for children, are on sale from Pomp and Circumstance (Commercial St, Harrogate, 01423504035) as well as from all participating schools and, on the night, the Royal Hall Box Office.
