Harrogate Harriers Juniors compete in first race of West Yorkshire X-Country league

31 October 2012

Harrogate Harriers Juniors competed in the first race of the 2012 West Yorkshire Cross-County League hosted by Wetherby Runners. The competition involves children from running clubs around West and North Yorkshire competing in various age groups. Mild weather and dry underfoot conditions led to some fast racing on an undulating parkland course.

The Harriers were delighted to have 34 athletes taking part and to field a complete Boy’s and Girl’s team in each of the age categories. This reflects growing interest in the Club and a spike in membership over the summer months, no doubt influenced by the success of the London Olympics.

The U15 Girls team put in a spectacular performance. They were led home by Millie Howard in 3rd place, with Lauren Woodall 8th , Claire Jones 14th, Lucy Ireland 17th, Millie Gray 22nd, Alex Tetley 30th and Rhiannon Lyon 42nd all playing their part to help them win their team category.

The other teams all performed well with strong debut runs from Ben Brennan, Gabriel Rhodes, Evan Ward, Jack Thomas, Emily Kingston, Jack Brennan, and Aaron Slight. The next race will be held in Yeadon on Saturday 10th November when Harriers look to improve upon its team standings, with more members competing.
