Sasha Noble and Elsa Robinson, pupils at Harrogate Ladies’ College, enjoyed successes at this year’s Ilkley Literature Festival.

Sasha was awarded the Commended prize in the year 10 and 11 category of ‘Young People’s Short Story’. She attended the Festival’s Words Club night where she received her prize and had the opportunity to read her short story.

Elsa won first prize at the Festival’s ‘Wordfest’ Event with her poem ‘Effervescence’. This was highly praised by the judges, ‘for the strength of emotion it conveyed’.

Mrs Beckett, English teacher at HLC, commented:

I am extremely proud of both Elsa and Sasha who have produced such wonderful pieces of work. Their love of English is always evident in lessons and I am delighted their talent has been recognised so that others can enjoy their work. HLC has a very strong record of academic success in English and it looks like this is set to continue in the safe hands of these two capable young writers.
