Drug growers stripped of £40,000

Huge Harrogate cannabis haul

19 September 2012

North Yorkshire Police are continuing their campaign against the illegal drugs trade with a substantial seizure of cannabis plants.

The raid took place at an address in Copgrove, Harrogate on Tuesday 18 September 2012 when officers seized in excess of 500 plants.

As well as seizing the plants, police have also confiscated hydroponic equipment used to cultivate the cannabis.

The investigation to identify and arrest those responsible remains ongoing.

Detective Sergeant Jason Marchant, of Harrogate CID, said:

This was clearly a sophisticated operation run by professional criminals.

This seizure has removed a significant amount of drugs from the supply chain.

I want the raid to send a clear message to anyone involved with the production and supply of illegal drugs that their activities will not be tolerated. North Yorkshire Police will act quickly when we receive intelligence to disrupt criminal behaviour at every level.

If you can help to identify those responsible for this operation please contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact on 101, press option 2 and ask for Harrogate CID. Alternatively information can be emailed to jason.marchant@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

  1. Firstly there is no such thing as an “illegal drug”. There are some substances regarded as ‘controlled drugs’ and cannabis is one of them. What is illegal is the basic human right to possess these so called controlled drugs. Illegal drugs do not exist. Secondly, cannabis is legally grown and sold in the UK by G W Pharmaceuticals. they grow 60,000 high potency plants in state of the art greenhouses in Kent. They sell the full extract, called Sativex or Nabiximols, to the NHS at huge profit and receive very generous tax breaks. They are doing no different to these enterprising people apart from the fact they are growing considerably more. The government deems Sativex (liquid cannabis) safe and effective medicine. So if you are a friend of the gov you don’t get arrested and are free to make a profit. If you aren’t, then you attract the attention of the police intent on wasting their time and your tax planning and executing these futile raids.

    • Cannabis is the beginning to most new users who then keep company with dealers who sell other street drugs the new user most of the time then will experiment with other substances thus creating a pattern or the start to the new user becoming addicted mentally or physically. Not everyone is the same and in my experience most people who use drugs suffer from low self esteem in some way or form and then begin the Journey of a troubled life with drugs. keep cannabis off our streets is what i say it has no place in our society at all.
