At 14:21 on 4 September 2012, HM Coastguards at Milford Haven received an emergency channel radio call.

A yacht named Ruth which was sailing from Dartmouth to Dublin, with two sailors on board, had a 24 year old woman from Harrogate suffering with severe abdominal pains.

An RAF Sea king helicopter was scrambled to the 10 metre vessel that was  27 miles south west of St Anne’s Head, Pembrokeshire, off the South Wales coast.

The lady was airlifted and taken to Haverford West Hospital in Withybush and the man remained on the yacht to bring it into port at Milverford Haven.

During the airlift the man suffered hand burns due to the lifting line and was subsequently taken for treatment at the port.
