The new venture is the brainchild of Nicola and Lucinda Buscall who have had a lifelong interest in art. Nicola developed her career in training and accreditation and Lucinda is a fine Art Graduate from London.

Nicola explained the origins of the concept:

Ten years ago I opened Aspects of Art, the art gallery in Leyburn and found that many artists welcomed creative feedback.

By interpreting the needs of the market, I was able to guide the artists towards becoming more commercially viable.

Since I moved to Harrogate a few years ago I have been looking for the right premises to develop this idea on a larger scale, and this has now come to fruition.

The Buscall Gallery at 29 Park Parade, overlooking the Stray, aims to bring a new dimension in fine art to Harrogate by exhibiting the work of traditional and contemporary artists, and help to develop opportunities for the wealth of artistic talent which exists not only here in Yorkshire but nationwide.

Lucinda went on to continue her studies in Fine Art at University of the Arts, London after leaving Giggleswick School.

Lucinda explained further:

I wanted make a career in the art world as an artist and curator, so this opportunity is a dream come true for me.

We are very excited by the prospects and we can foresee the gallery becoming a focal point for all those with an interest in art.

Along with her role in this new venture Lucinda is also an exciting modern artist and typifies the young talent which can be brought along with the right platform and guidance.

Whilst there is an important local focus the gallery welcomes work of merit from any source. A different artist will be featured each month in a separate exhibition area.

Harrogate’s MP Andrew Jones formally open the gallery at 6pm on 1 September 2012.

  2. Hello, congratulations on the dream come true!
I have lived in Harrogate all my life (aged 22) and I believe another art gallery for Harrogate is a brilliant idea.
As the previous comment, I am also an artist, I have just graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA (HONS) Fine Art Degree.
I would also appreciate being considered to present my work in your gallery. Not only this, but I would also appreciate contact of any vacancies at your new gallery.
I look forward to your reply.
    Thank you and good luck,
    Holly Skelton
